Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television reporter, commentator and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. 1976 Mitchell became a reporter for WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). She was hired by NBC News Washington two years after that as a general reporter. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was named chief correspondent for the congressional office by 1988. She was named the chief White House correspondent in 1992 and the chief foreign affairs correspondent in 1994 for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell was a panelist, as well as host of the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist in the presidential debates in 1988 in the debate between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first journalist to report on White House stories for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's tenure as president from 1981-1988. Her coverage included a variety of crucial stories such as the Iran-Contra controversy, budget and tax reform in addition to the arms control. She traveled widely with President Reagan during summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
